Ashwin’s statement

Speaking on his YouTube channel ‘Ash Ki Baat’, Ashwin said, “It has repeatedly felt in this series that our strategic thinking and ability to understand the game have been very weak, which has benefited the opposition team. That is why England is ahead in this series and we are ahead.”

Ashwin believes that India lost an important opportunity during the 195 -run partnership of England batsmen Harry Brooke and Joe Root in the fourth innings. He says that if Washington Sundar was first applied for bowling, England’s run speed could have been curbed and pressure could be put on the batsmen.

Ashwin said, “When Brooke had become aggressive and scored 20 runs, the captain should have thought of bringing the spinner instead of a pace and should have thought of stopping the run from one end. At that time it should have been bowled beautifully, but was delayed in bringing him and then it was only a defensive move for India.”

Although Ashwin also said that Shubman Gill is still young and he has the ability to learn, but also added that he had taken it too long to use spinners due to his expert in playing spin. He further said, “Gill will continue to learn further. He has time, but when the captain considers himself a good batsman of the spin, then he should not delay in bringing the spin, and the same mistake was made by India, which India got heavy.”

In the fourth innings of the Oval Test, India has bowled 76.2 overs so far, but out of it, only 8 overs have been put with spinners (Jadeja and Sundar). Washington Sundar did not get a single over in the first innings, and Jadeja had thrown only two overs.

To this, Ashwin said, “Such mistakes should not be made in cricket today. It is a big lapse in India’s strategy. We do not know whether a message is being sent from the pavilion outside or not, but all these mistakes in the match can be avoided now.”

Now England need only 35 runs to win and India 4 wickets. India lags behind 1-2 in this series. If this Indian team loses this match, then it will be defeat in the third consecutive Test series for India.
