Windies rout hapless Bangladesh
on March 4th, 2011 at 2:24 pmTwo matches were played today and both ended in no time, WestIndies and NewZealand gave no chance to their opponents Bangladesh and Zimbabwe and just decimated them.
The match between WestIndies and Bangladesh was an important one as both teams were fighting for a spot in the quarterfinals. The fans expected tough competition but WestIndies just routed Bangladesh for 58 in 18.5 overs and showed them their real place in world cricket.
A resurgent WestIndies is at #2 of the group B, their performance today must have sent chills down in the English camp who are hoping to beat WestIndies and secure a quarterfinal place.
WestIndies if it plays to its potential can beat any team in world cricket but o their off days the can be beaten by a minnow team even Pakistan can’t match their inconsistency, they will have to keep up this momentum and if they want to secure a place in the quarterfinals.
Before the world cup in warm up matches and in bilateral series Zimbabwe’s team promised to pose a big challenge to the big teams but they haven’t lived upto that promise. If they had a chance to upset any test team in group A it was NewZealand but it didn’t happen. New Zealand just rolled over Zimbabwe and defeated them by 10 wickets. Batting first Zimbabwe scored 166 in 46.2 overs. The total was chased down by NewZealand in 33.3 overs without losing any wickets.
NewZealand were routed by Australia and many believed that they will struggle against Zimbabwe, the next two games for them are big one against Pakistan and the against SriLanka, they will make it to the QF’s I don’t think there will be any upsets in group A.

I agree about the similarities in the politics that goes in in the Bangla and Stani teams and boards. I think theirs doesn’t run as deep though.
Definitely they’re currently over-hyped. One good batsman, one average one and a none-existent bowling attack.
Ireland will overtake them within 5 years, and Zimbabwe, Netherlands and Canada within the next 10-15 if they don’t sort themselves out.

I think Bangla team is also palgued with dirty internal politics, Tamim Iqbal can play and some of his innings he has played during last year he looked more like Farhat or Butt.
Overall their team was overhyped and I think the results are inline with their actual rankings in world cricket.
There is more to it than what meets the eye regarding the Windies I strongly believe that several of their players underperform.
I think the Windies are just too laid back which is why they’re so inconsistent. The inconsistency of our lot is a mixture of being too laid back, unprofessional and corrupt.
Don’t know if it’s just a perception I got, but dont you think the Bangla players looked a bit plump? I was speaking to one of my Bengali mates and he said soon as they come in the team they give them money, land and stuff and suddenly the players have no motivation, they think they’ve made it. Certainly some of the players were carrying bellies.
@Stani
I couldn’t watch the game as it was already over before I woke up. Yeah no reason to throw things at visiting team when your own team couldn’t play, you are right England will have hard time in beating WI but only if those morons decided to play like a team. If there is a team which is more inconsistent than Pakistan in a suspicious way it is WestIndies.
Yep! It’s high time that they should investigate other teams too because some of the matches have been quite suspicious.
England’s batsmen wont know how to handle Roach Wasim. Can’t wait for that game.
It’s a shame the Bangladesh fans had to imitate their Indian brothers and start chucking things in frustration, although their team badly let them down.
Looks like ACSU will be very busy during the world up!
Todays result have put Windies in a strong position they are no longer fighting for the fourth slot in Group B, that fight is now between India, England and Bangladesh.
This means that the winner of group A will face a big team in QF’s. An India Pakistan face off has become a possibility in Qf’s. I am not saying that India will secure the last position in their group but if Pakistan secure the second and India secure the third position then both teams will face each other in Qf’s.
