Schedule of FAYSAL BANK T20 Cup 2010-2011

PCB
Rams could not keep the momentum in the last 3 overs and thats is where they lost the match. They should have scored 230 but the run out of Hammad Azam was crucial turning point.
lahore inshalla win this tournament
Wasim,
I think the moral of the story about your last two posts is to never underestimate a side with 9 international players.
Unless that the Rams screw up the remaining 6 overs or their bowlers screw it up big time Dolphins can’t win this match. Rams are 155/2 after 14 overs.
Rams are showing no respect to Karachi bowlers after 9 overs the score was 99. Babar Naeem and Naveed Malik played brilliantly, I missed the opportunity to watch Awais Zia bat who was unfortunate to be given out in the first over. after 10 overs the score is 116 if Karachi didn’t get some quick wickets they won’t be able to win this match, Rams have some batting depth and looks like they will post a score of 220.
Lions are into the finals, Shoaib Akhtar couldn’t do much as Lahore played him very cautiously.
Yousaf was the hero for Lions he scored a classy 57 off just 48 balls he came in to bat when Lahore was 18/2. He restored the innings of Lahore in partnership with Ahmad Shahzad.
Azhar Mahmood took four wickets for Leopards and also played an important knock in the middle order.
Why Ahmad Shahzad, Wahab Riaz, Imran Nazir and Shahzaib not in the T20 and Odi Squad?
These four have been the top 4 performers in tournament but PCB continue to choose players like Farhat, Misbah, Fawad and Tanvir.
It was a treat to watch the contest between Shoaib Akhtar and Mohammad Yousaf, both players threw their punches at each other I believe Shoaib was a bit unlucky in the end he troubled Yousaf with his bouncers and swinging yorkers but somehow Yousaf survived.
This could have been a close match but the lack of intent shown by the Islamabad Batsmen didn’t allowed them to post a par score they never really went after any bowler, if this team had just one established batsman they could have done much better.
PCB
Afridi didn’t bowled his full quota because he could afford experimentation. I think Malik doesn’t have any confidence in his own bowling. Sialkot could have won easily but I was surprised why Rana was not trying to play big shots or even rotate the strike.
Why did Rana Naved and Shoaib Malik not bowl the full 4 overs? Same for Shahid Afridi.
Had they bowled 4 overs, Sialkot may have won.
Dolphins have qualified for the semi finals as expected they have beaten Lahore Eagles by 35 runs.
It was a high scoring match 452 runs were scored in this match. Dolpins batting first scored 243.
Shahzaib scored an unbeaten century, Khalid Lateef, Tariq Haroon, and Afridi also played aggressive innings. Keeping in view the weak line up of Lahore Eagles and strong bowling line up of Dolphins it was expected that the Eagles will lose by a huge margin but Taufiq Umar and Farhat gave their team an aggressive start and were almost scoring 10 runs an over. Poor fielding helped Farhat and Taufeeq both players got several chances Farhat scored his 50 off 36 balls. But Eagles came close to the target when Ali Azmat scored an aggressive 69 off just 38 balls his innings included 5 fours and 5 sixes.
The difference between the two teams was the bowling Eagles had a very poor bowling line up with Junaid Zia being their most prominent bowler, Imran Farhat opened the bowling with Junaid Zia and right there it was became clear that Eagles will get crushed.
Dolphins will face Rams in the Semis and Lahore will face Shoaib Akhtar’s Islamabad in the semis, a final between Lahore Lions and Dolphins is expected.
Lahore will have to overcome Shoaib Akhtar who is in supreme form and Karachi will have to overcome a spirited Rawalpindi team which surprised every one by defeating Stallions which has been winning this tournament since last 5 years.
I think Dolphins will win qualify for the finals but the finals if it is played between Lahore and Karachi it can go either way as both teams are balanced.
Sialkot and Multan tigers have been knocked out of the tournament and Faisalbad Wolves another heavy weight team is on the verge of being knocked out.
Shoaib Akhtar demolished the Faisalabad team in his first over when he took three wickets, the wolves never recovered from that, even though Faisalabad still managed to score 140+ runs but they were extremely weak in the pace deaprtment Shahid Nazir and Sami Ullah are way past their prime, Islamabad hasn’t lost a wicket and are 95/0 after 10 overs.
They are comfortably going to win this match and qualify for the semis.
Rams are about to do the biggest upset of the tournament by defeating Stallions.
Sialkot can still win it but it would be hard for them to win it from here. 27 runs from 14 balls reqd.
Rana is batting and looks out of sorts.
Waseem Abbas
This year they will get tough competition from Lahore and Dolphins both teams are equally strong especially Lahore’s bowling and batting is very strong.
sailkot will be t20 champions bcoz Imran nazir is the most dangerous player.
Lions Vs Tigers
Yousaf won the toss and elected to field.
Multan are 5/3. The outcome of this match can be predicted easily. It will be hard for Multan to make a come back from here.
Through out this tournament I have seen that unknown players showing great technique but losing thier wicket to mental errors, this is where one sees the real value of experience.
Razzaq took two wickets on his first two balls, both Razzaq and Shabbir have lifted their game and caught Multan batsmen by surprise who were hoping to milk the bowling of these two bowlers in the first six overs.
Lahore looks certain to make to the Semi finals.
Panthers lost all of thier matches their performance wasn’t impressive today they didn’t have any bowling, Riaz Afridi was their main strike bowler he is way past his prime, they missed Umar Gul, Panthers need to improve their bowling.
Abbottabad was the most improved team in this tournament, it was only lack of experience which stopped them from qualifying for the semis. Junaid Khan is definitely a great find, hopefully PCB will not waste this bowler and will nurture him and provide him with proper opportunities to bloom.

Here’s the link for the points table.

is there someone to share the points table of played matches……
Asim
Shahzaib always scores domestically, I have always praised him and always supported him on this blog but he has always disappointed me when he bats for Pakistan team. BTW Hyderabad’s bowling was also pathetic.
Asim
I know what he did yesterday. It wasn’t Islamabad it was Eagles and they don’t have any bowling. He failed in all the matches he has played on the A tour to SriLanka, I saw him a couple of times before playing for U19 he was extremely poor with the bat.
YK was superb with the bat he is back in form and should be in the team. I only saw the match between Lions and Panthers yesterday couldn’t watch the rest of the matches.
I think if Raffat Ullah had played a bit sensibly Peshawar could have won the match he was over aggressive against Wahab and just threw away his wicket. But hats off to Peshawar they put up a spirited fight. Even though I am from Lahore I was cheering for the panthers.
You have talked about Ghumman not being able to perform …. it seems he also played a decent knock yesterday and just looked at Islamabad bowling lineup, its a pretty decent bowling lineup.
Good match reporting Waseem
….. you didnt comment on how shahzaib batted when he scored 70+ against the hawks. From the scores that i have seen, Younis also batted quite aggressively.
Ghumman batted well today. You musn’t forget that he is only 19.
Gul has definitely just got married in Dubai. I have found the link. http://www.dailytimes.com.pk/default.asp?page=2010%5C10%5C11%5Cstory_11-10-2010_pg2_4
PCB
Whenever I have seen him play Ghumman completely failed if it is a coincidence then I must say that this coincidence is happening too often.
Fahad
Wish you good luck for your team. Seems like they can never beat Stallions.
Are you sure because I didn’t read any news of him getting married, I know Asif got married two weeks ago but never knew Gul was also getting married.
Umar Gul has just got married, and that is why. I think Azeem Ghumman is a very good player for his age, and his past performances are very good overall.
INSHALLAH KARACHI DOLPHINE Faysal bank T20 tournament JEET JAYE GYE 100%
I wonder why Umar Gul is not playing in this tournament?
Usmaan
I agree with you they should have a longer tournament.
This tournament should have more matches..
At least one team should play 5 matches…
Karachi Dolphins won the match by 20 runs, Faisal Athar played a great innings of 63, Lal Kumar Supported him with an aggressive 40, I wasn’t expecting Hyderabad to put up such a fight not that I think Karachi Dolphins bowling is of any quality but only because except for Rizwan and Faisal Athar I had not known many of the young Hyderabad players.
I don’t know what people see in Azeem Ghumman the guy was pathetic on the field as a captain, got out on first ball and each time I follow him he fails, failed miserably with Pakistan A tour of SriLanka but still we are grooming him as a future captain.
I think the selectors are not doing their job at all or are taking bribes to select non deserving players for the A team and national team.
I am going to make a list of players in my next post who should be followed and who at least should get a place in A team.
Hyderabad Vs Karachi Dolphins
There is no match between the two teams Hyderabad is like a Mohalla eleven, somebody commented about Mir Ali Talpur in one of the previous threads and today after seeing him bowl I can vouch for that person that Mir Ali Talpur doesn’t deserve to play at this level.
Funny thing is that before he came in to bowl our ex-chief selector Abdul Qadir was raving about Mir Ali.
Qadir was of the opinion that Mir Ali was genuinely fast and had a very rythymic run up and had the ability to swing the ball both ways. I think Qadir was perhaps drunk when he saw that Kid bowl, the guy had no rythym in his run up, was bowling as flat as I have seen anybody bowl, there was no line no length completely wayward gave away 36 runs from his 3 overs.
A lot of times these smaller associations complain about their players being neglected at national level but the truth is that they don’t deal with the talent they have fairly and provide opportunities to people who do not deserve at all.
Dolphins have scored 195 they will win it quite comfortably.
Falcons Vs Tigers
The Falcons are perhaps the most improved team in the tournament so far even though they haven’t won any match but yesterday they almost won from Lahore and today they had a good match against a strong Multan team. Pakistan should invest on Junaid Khan he is genuinely quick has a good run up a lot of similarities between him and Aamer but the later with his ability to move the ball both ways was at a different level. But out of all the fast bowlers I have seen this year so far Junaid has impressed me the most.
The tigers won the match comfortably in the end thanks to their wicket keeper Gulraiz Sadaf who played a superb knock of 70 odd runs, the Falcons need another bowler to support Junaid Khan.
Anybody who is seeing this tournament would find plenty of cricketers who are better than players like Farhat, Fawad, Latif, Khurram, and some of the old players in the team. But I wonder Why they don’t get a chance.
Wolves Vs Quetta Bears
The Wolves won this match very comfortably the Bears could not put up a fight and lost the match by 57 runs.
Misbah scored only 3 runs, Faisalabads opener Asif Hussain who looks like Sehwag scored a 50 he performed really well in the last tournament also.
Arslan Ali
Dolphins is good team but they always lose in the finals of this tournament. Seems like they can’t beat Stallions.
Insha Allah Afridi Bhai ki team he jetay gi
Sialkot Stallions just crushed Karachi Zebras in the third match today, Zebras were shot out for just 99. I don’t think that Sialkot bowled exceptionally well yes their fielding was good the field placement was also great but the score line still cannot be justified, Zebras are a star studded team, Faisal Iqbal, Khurram Manzoor, Nauman Ullah, and Hassan Raza these guys looked completely out of sorts, other than Sarfraz Ahmad and Rahman none of the Sialkot bowler was exceptional but Zebras were just pathetic.
Which makes me wonder why we keep on playing Khurram and Faisal in International level and with A team what have they done over the years their are other players who are much more talented but their failures are highlighted and they are kicked out of the team for long periods. While Khurram and Faisal keep playing with A team or National team despite countless failures.
I think it is hiigh time that players should be judged on the basis of their abiliity to win matches and not on basis of a few failures.
Imran Nazir just slaughtered all the Karachi bowlers they had no answer to his stroke play. He scored an unbeated 60. Zebras were unfortunate that Uzair and Tabish their two frontline fast bowlers got food poisoning and couldn’t play in this match.
Stallions this year are without the service of Asif and Razzaq their batting line up remains the same, Rana Naveed is back in their line up looks totally unfit has developed a huge tummy bulge and looks like a fat police constable.
Stallions are the most professional outfit in this whole tournament they have won 5 tournaments and lost only two matches in the history of this tournament, its not that their team is stronger talent wise than other teams I think their support staff and their captain makes the difference. I think nobody in Pakistan understands T20 more than Malik and that is a huge advantage that they have.
Lahore Lions Vs Abbotabad Falcons
Lions scored 165/6 in 20 overs, Mohammad Yousaf and Umar Akmal failed to contribute considerably for the Lahore team their innings was rescued by a scintilating innings by Razzaq who scored 60 off just 30 balls, Ahmad Shahzad scored 35 as an opener.
Lahore posted a decent score and at one stage it looked as if they will win by a huge margin but Abbottabad fought back and came very close to causing a huge upset, Ahmad Said their captain scored 54 runs and remained not out Wajid Ali scored 39 10 runs were required of last 2 balls when Ahmed Said struck a huge six off Razzaq and brought his team really close to victory just 4 runs were required but Said missed a swinging full toss outside off stump and failed to finish the match.
Aizaz cheema took 3/27, Wahab Riaz gave away just 11 runs off his four overs, Junaid Khan of Abbottabad is the bowlers to watch out for he has been consistently performing in domestic cricket and with the A team he just gave 11 runs from his 4 overs and took 2 wickets. It was a great match unknown players from Abbottabad almost defeated a star studded Lahore team.
Multan Vs Peshawar
Multan crushed Peshawar in the opening match of Faysal bank T20 tournament.
Panthers batted first and scored only 128 from the allotted 20 overs. Riaz Afridi was the top run getter for Peshawar followed by Raffat Ullah 28 and Younis Khan 22 off 29 balls.
There were four run outs in Peshawar innings which caused their collapse they were 75/2 after 10 overs in the next 10 overs they lost 6 more wickets and scored only 53 more runs. Multan spinners Zulifqar Babar and Imran Ullah Aslam completely choked the innings of Peshawar.
Imran Ullah Aslam was the hero for Multan who two wickets for 13 runs and scored 57 off just 27 balls with 6 fours and 4 sixes and single handedly won the match for his team.
Mir Ali Talpur is not deserving player
