Hussey and Nannes take Pakistan and Australia into next round.
on May 5th, 2010 at 8:17 pmA 29 ball 47 by Hussey took both Australia and Pakistan into the second round. Australia were reeling at 6/65 the Australian batsmen couldn’t score freely against the left arm spinners of Bangladesh and the Aussie wickets kept on tumbling in an attempt to break free of the shackles.
Any thing could have been possible had Hussey and Steve Smith not rescued Australia. A 76 run partenrship in the last 7 overs took Australia’s total from 65\6 to 141.
The target was still achievable but the wicket had juice in it and none of the Bangladeshi batsmen showed any grit to stay on the wicket, I wonder why they didn’t played Tamim in today’s match.
So far almost all of the left arm orthodox leg spinners have been successful in this tournament, I hope Pakistan’s team manangement learns from today’s match and plays Rahman instead of Fawad Alam in super eight stage.
Bangladesh team has the talent but they don’t know how to pace their innings they are too trigger happy and probably this is the main reason that they don’t win many matches.
David Warner looked complete suspect against spin bowling, Australian team which looked invincible in St Lucia looked ordinary in slightly tougher conditions, probably Bangladesh’s fielding and disciplined line and length made the difference, the bounce in the pitch also strangely effected the Aussie batsmen. Australian batting line up does have depth but they also have some soft spots in their line up, they will struggle against teams with quality spin bowling.
Pakistan will have to lift up their morale and they will have to lift up their fielding especially the catching. Their batting has depth and variety but they have to figure out their team combination, with the exception of Ajmal and Aamer none of their bowler is bowling decently, the poor form of Afridi with the ball has been a big set back for Pakistan, hopefully he will adjust his bowling according to the conditions. Pakistan will have to make some tough choices in the next round but they should not drop any potential match winner from their line up, Pakistan should drop Fawad Alam and Sami and should bring in Rahman and Asif.
Pakistan’s next match will be at Kingston Oval the conditions over there are expected to suit our bowlers, hopefully Afridi will think clearly and pick the right combination.
