India’s chances rest with Mishra and Harbhajan
on September 28th, 2009 at 2:05 pmIndia is facing a win or go home situation in their match against Australia today. The pitch is assisting spinners and both Harbhajan and Mishra are extracting spin, the current crop of Australian players get too edgy against the spinners and do not know how to work the ball for singles they like to play big shots.
Australia will depend on Ricky Ponting to play a big innings. He will have to play the role of a sheppard he will have to guide the young players against Harbhajan and Mishra.
Dhoni opted for five bowlers he will have to use part timers again to bowl the remaining overs of Ishaant who has been straying too much with his line and length. A lot also depend on how the Australian spinners will bowl on this pitch as usually in the second innings it is hard to grip the ball, Indian batsmen will take full advantage of it. they struggled a bit against Afridi and Ajmal but the inexperienced Australian spinners won’t bother them much.
Australia will have to score around 300 to put pressure on India and then their pacers will have to bowl aggressively at the Young Indian players.
I have a feeling that India will win this match.

The rain gods have interupted the game it’s yet to be seen which team they will favor or they chose to wipe of the entire game. Normally the team batting second gets a raw deal but I think in todays match India will get a favorable verdict as Australia were yet to launch their attack.
Australia is wasting the power play, I think White should take a bit more risk.
Only a run out could have broken this partnership. Hussey will have to play till end now.
Dhoni is commiting the same mistake of trying to bowl out his weak bowlers while a big partnership is developing. I think instead of ishaant he should have bowled Nehra and Mishra.

I suggested yesterday on your blog to replace Praveen with Ishaant but Dhoni dropped RP Singh. Ishaant should bowl wicket to wicket. He is not bringing the ball in like he normally does so there is no point in bowling outside the off stump.
The weather is getting bad and might play it’s role in the outcome of the match.
they way ishant bowling it would have been a good idea had they dropped in and kept pathan as bowler only… he could not have bowled this worse…
i am yet to remember a front line bowler bowling this kind a shit and more than that allowed to bowl the shit for so long… some guys have all the luck in world…

The seventh batsman was Pathan you cannot count on him he is just a paper tiger he can only score in T20′s where the boundries are shorter and field restrictions are different.
But Ponting and Hussey have played Mishra and Harbhajan played well, Mishra bowled well but Harbhajan failed to exploit the conditions he bowled one bad ball in every over and kept on darting the ball instead of giving it a bit of air and try to extract spin. If Hussey and Ponting continued the way they are batting i think Australia has a good chance of knocking India out of the competition.
Wasim,
The problem with 5 bowlers is that if Aus make even a moderate score then the Indian batsmen will feel the pressure. I know there are certain tales that stick around but I dont think India has one of them. Pressures will be on their batsmen to contribute.
