Miandad has been announced as the new batting Coach /consultant of Pakisan team. Can somebody tell me why?
1- If we have to hire a separate bowling coach( Aaqib Javed) a separate batting coach cum consultant(Miandad) then what the fuck is Intikhab Alam’s job?
2- When Ejaz Butt announced that Saeed Anwar was being hired as a coach for the openers it made sense as most of Pakistan’s batting woe’s lie with the openers, and Saeed Anwar could have helped some of the youngsters.
3- Miandad’s main job is to develop the game at the domestic level he has failed as a batting coach on numerous occasions in the past I wonder how he is going to be of any use now, it seems he is insecure about the coaching job and wants to maintain his control.
4- I have never been able to understand what criterea PCB employs to hire a coach.
For years PCB’s main preference was to hire a white caucasian who can use a laptop. This idea is not so popular with the current administration, but so far this administration is just making a list of ex -greats and distributing them different positions, the most lucrative and the most important positions were handed over to those who have the loudest mouth.
No consideration has been given to past coaching or administration experience, personality and past results. I wonder if Ejaz Butt ever asked Miandad or Saeed Anwar what were his plans, how these guys envisage to help Pakistani batsmen I think he just short listed them on the basis of runs they scored in International cricket.
5- The print media in our country has a responsibility to hold these ex-players accountable they are extremely critical of PCB and the team when they are not working for PCB but nobody ponts finger at them when they are on job.
Miandad should be asked as the director general operations and incharge of domestic cricket operations what has he done to improve the coaching standard and playing conditions of domestic cricket. Dust bowl pitches are still being prepared, we haven’t seen a grass root coaching program, we haven’t seen any significant activity at the academy other than hiring and firing coaches.
6- I do not agree with the notion that a player after a certain stage do not need a coach, professional players always need a coach to maintain their game, look at Tiger woods and Phil Mickelson even when they are at the top of their game they still seek help to mainain the level of their game and to further improve it. An experienced coach who has a good eye for the game and who knows how to fix a problem with the help of some innovative drills can immensely help an out of form player and can also help shorten the learning curve of an upcoming player.
7- Miandad does have the experience and he also have the eye for the game but I don’t think he has the personality of a coach or he has any passion for the job all he is interested is in power and control.
I think Saeed Anwar by helping the openers could have made a positive impact on the team’s performance.
I think the middle order will perform in Champions trophy as some players are on the verge of losing their jobs, openers have always been my concern and that is why I believe that Saeed was a better candidate for the job.

Long time viewer / 1st time poster. Really enjoy reading the blog, keep up the good work. Will definitely start posting more in the near future.

I couldn’t get it because other than Sarfraz and Qadir nobody has been vocal about Match fixing. I think he took this assignment so that he does not lose his control, after the national camp for CT he will give a certificate of form and fitness to all the underperformers of the SriLankan series and the status quo will be maintained.
yaar wasim…dint get it…
miandaad himself…

And who is the most vocal voice on match fixing?
the reason cud be that this way at least there will be some silence on match fixing from most vocal voice…
We have people who can run PCB professionally but we do not have someone who can lead and ensure the implementation of all the plans.
Ex players in all cricket playing nations form a sort of think tank cum critical body, But the criticism hurled by some of the Pakistani ex players always appears to be motivated they don’t let go off any opportunity to pull the legs of those who are in office.
And can anybody ask them why they always become wise after they see the result why they don’t point out problems before any series.
Wasim,
The whole thing needs overhauling. But, do we really have people who are professional enough to take this on without showing nepotism and messing it up?
Also, these veterans need to close their mouths. What other nations ex-players mouth off as much as ours?

I think Miandad and a few others who raise hell all the time when they are sitting outside their performance should be scruitnized more critically. I think not much has changed in the standard of domestic cricket since Miandad took over the coaching standard is still the same and the matches are being played on docile pitches, grass root coaching and nurturing is still not available.
Pakistan should use Saqlain, Wasim, and Waqar to coach youngsters.
Disgrace. This is why we will never be the number Test side in the world. Miandad was a great Pakistan batsman, but coaching is something different. He has also lost the plot recently and is becoming senile.
How about a bet that Faisal Iqbal will feature for Pakistan more prominently now?
I also don’t agree with the fact that we have to keep going down the Pakistani route. When other nations can make use of our good players (Saqlain to New Zealand most recently), we should tap into their greats too.
