Miandad has been announced as the new batting Coach /consultant of Pakisan team. Can somebody tell me why?
1- If we have to hire a separate bowling coach( Aaqib Javed) a separate batting coach cum consultant(Miandad) then what the fuck is Intikhab Alam’s job?
2- When Ejaz Butt announced that Saeed Anwar was being hired as a coach for the openers it made sense as most of Pakistan’s batting woe’s lie with the openers, and Saeed Anwar could have helped some of the youngsters.
3- Miandad’s main job is to develop the game at the domestic level he has failed as a batting coach on numerous occasions in the past I wonder how he is going to be of any use now, it seems he is insecure about the coaching job and wants to maintain his control.
4- I have never been able to understand what criterea PCB employs to hire a coach.
For years PCB’s main preference was to hire a white caucasian who can use a laptop. This idea is not so popular with the current administration, but so far this administration is just making a list of ex -greats and distributing them different positions, the most lucrative and the most important positions were handed over to those who have the loudest mouth.
No consideration has been given to past coaching or administration experience, personality and past results. I wonder if Ejaz Butt ever asked Miandad or Saeed Anwar what were his plans, how these guys envisage to help Pakistani batsmen I think he just short listed them on the basis of runs they scored in International cricket.
5- The print media in our country has a responsibility to hold these ex-players accountable they are extremely critical of PCB and the team when they are not working for PCB but nobody ponts finger at them when they are on job.
Miandad should be asked as the director general operations and incharge of domestic cricket operations what has he done to improve the coaching standard and playing conditions of domestic cricket. Dust bowl pitches are still being prepared, we haven’t seen a grass root coaching program, we haven’t seen any significant activity at the academy other than hiring and firing coaches.
6- I do not agree with the notion that a player after a certain stage do not need a coach, professional players always need a coach to maintain their game, look at Tiger woods and Phil Mickelson even when they are at the top of their game they still seek help to mainain the level of their game and to further improve it. An experienced coach who has a good eye for the game and who knows how to fix a problem with the help of some innovative drills can immensely help an out of form player and can also help shorten the learning curve of an upcoming player.
7- Miandad does have the experience and he also have the eye for the game but I don’t think he has the personality of a coach or he has any passion for the job all he is interested is in power and control.
I think Saeed Anwar by helping the openers could have made a positive impact on the team’s performance.
I think the middle order will perform in Champions trophy as some players are on the verge of losing their jobs, openers have always been my concern and that is why I believe that Saeed was a better candidate for the job.
