Pakistan seek to replace Arafat with Razzaq
on June 10th, 2009 at 7:19 pmIn a welcome move, PCB has formally applied with the ICC to replace injured all rounder Arafat with Razzaq.
Finally some sense prevailed in PCB head quarter.
The request was sent to the ICC’s technical committee and, though there’s no official confirmation it has been accepted, sources close to the Pakistan camp and the player claimed it had.
“We have made a request to the ICC for Abdul Razzaq as a replacement,” Ijaz Butt, the PCB chairman, told Cricinfo. “He is an allrounder and we’ve requested he replace Arafat, who is also an allrounder.”
Razzaq’s name was on the original list of 30 probables the PCB had sent to the ICC in early April – before the BCCI announced the amnesty – but the board u-turned and scratched his name off because the ICC objected to his ICL status. But now that Razzaq has given proof to PCB that he has severed all ties with the rebel league, I don’t think that ICC should have any objection. Keepng in view that Sohail Tanvir is also carrying a back strain injury ICC might approve the substitution .
If the request is approved it might help Pakistan team a lot which is struggling to find the right combination.

This thread was written before the T20 WC and Razzaq was quite effective in that tournament.
I would prefer Razzaq over Rana, Rao and Arafat anyday because he has the nerves and temperament for playing in big matches which Arafat doesn’t. Rana and Rao are not as smart as Razzaq.
i think arafat would have been a better option, as razak has already been tested and failed for the purpose, thus opting to rebel and play for icl as a result. But if you are following the county, you might have noticed arafat’s equal power hitting ability and 90mph balling speed. Arafat certainly deserves his spot in the squad ahead of razak
hi im nadeem i like to razzak play to t20 becouse he is riqurd to pakistan team but pakistan team also required imran nazir / muhammad yousuf n also rana so plz plz its playing to pakistan crickets team
I agree.. I think thats a better option.. replace him with Salman Butt and make him open..

That’s what I was thinking and most probably he will replace Fawad, I don’t think they will drop Tanvir if he is fit, they should drop Salman Butt to make room for Razzak.
It would be a mistake by Younis to use Razzaq as a bowler his gentle medium pace will not work at International level he will get thrashed.
The question is who will he replace?

And where will he bat?
I have a bad feeling they will replace Fawad with Razzaq and make him bat higher up.. at 3 probably..

I think Razzak should have a Visa for UK already if ICC has approved the replacement then he should be able to reach their on Friday.
Can somebody break any bone in Salman Butt’s body so that we can have Imran Nazir replace him.
I’m hearing that the ICC have approved the request and the authorities are trying to get Razzak a visa asap… though nothing has been announced officially..
Pakistan play on Friday and Saturday.. so if Razzak doesn’t get there by tomorrow, there’s a chance he may not be required at all..
