Brett lee wants to be faster than ever
on March 14th, 2009 at 6:49 pmIn an effort to win back his place in the Aussie team, Brett Lee is following a tough fitness regime.
He said that “he is fitter than ever and is aiming to be faster than ever.”
“People might think 32 is old for a bowler, but the way that I look at it, you look at the great sprinters around the world,” Lee said.
“You’re using the same type of muscles, it’s the same type of build-up, it’s all about fast-twitch fibres … most of those guys don’t reach their peak until they’re 34 or 35.
“I still firmly believe that I can be in the same boat as them. I actually want to get quicker and be better than what I have been.”
Lee had a disappointing series against India and South Africa where he was completely in effective, his pace was still there but his failure to move the ball and reverse swing the old ball made him toothless, I don’t think that hitting the Jim is going to teach him how to move the ball.
I think he is trying to pull a Shoaib Akhtar like stunt in the media to win back his place in the Australian team.

Intriguing approach. I’m suprised I do not notice this on the actual large news sites first of all. Nicely played!
he is a good bowler. i hope he’ll take his revenge in the ashes2009

Welcome to cricketfiles
Australia got knocked out in the first stage and you are right Brett cannot increase his pace at this age all he needs is to focus on learning to reverse the ball he is too flat.
Australian fast bowler Brett Lee has become aged. He is now 32-year-old player. I think it is much old for a bowler to increase bowling speed. However, he made his return in the Australian squad after recovering from injury. Despite his good pace and line and length, he could not play as an effective bowler in the on going twenty20 world cup.
Yes. I admire his effort though. I bowl fast (try to!) and it is not easy giving 100% every ball. How these guys do it, especially in tests, I do not know.
He is still quite fast, he can’t bowl consistently in 150′s, the thing which he lacks is reverse swing he never mastererd that art, in fact with the exception of Nathan Bracken none of the current crop of Aussie bowlers can reverse swing the ball. I think the flat tracks being prepared all over the world are also one reason because of which even decent or great fast bowlers are increasingly looking ordinary.
The faster it comes, the faster it will go to the boundary!
The thing about out and out pace bowlers Waz is that they need to adjust later in their careers and become more line and length bowlers otherwise they’ll see themselves retiring early.
People do this in other sports. Footballers do it a lot. As they age, they develop other qualities like positional awareness, passing ability, reading of the game etc. When they were young it was all pace, strength and stamina.
Lee needs to change (though I don’t see him doing it) because you can’t keep bowling 145 kmh at his age. The t20 and the ashes will be his last two involvements.
Wasim , there is a new thread on MAZA786 about the fate of Pakistan cricket
I agree Wasim
I think he is following Shoaib Akhtar, he likes attention also likes self boosting and his extra curricular show biz activities are also quite similar to Akhtar.
LOL… looks like he is going the shaun tait way
