Greedy Yousuf joins ICL once again
on November 3rd, 2008 at 2:56 pmMohammad Yousuf has joined ICL once again , the news came out on the eve when his name was announced in the 15 member squad of Pakistan for the Abu Dhabi series. Mohammad Yousuf joined ICL before his inaugural season citing differences with PCB, but Nasim Ashraf later on convinced him to back off from the contract he returned the ICL money and was financially compensated by PCB, he also received Us $300,000 from IPL without playing a single match.
Yousuf has been consistently black mailing PCB and has been using ICL as a leverage to negotiate with PCB, his relations with PCB became sour when he was not selected for the T20 tournament in Toronto he openly threatened to join ICL , he was not taking part in the on going Pentangular cup, which raises the question that why his name was announced in the 15 member squad, his innings in the semi final against Sialkot was instrumental in sending Sialkot to the RBS T20 finals, in cricket circles it is being said openly that Yousuf fixed that match and threw it away on purpose.
It will be a huge blow to Pakistan’s test team as Yousuf was the most reliable test batsman of Pakistan, there was no reason for Yousuf to join ICL and risk his career, he is one guy who has repeatedly preferred money over national duties he has proved time and again that he is an extremely greedy person with no morals, its time that PCB should make an example of him for others.
Update:
Karachi: Indian Premier League official and former BCCI secretary Niranjan Shah has threatened to take legal course against Mohammad Yousuf if the Pakistani batsman returned to the ‘rebel’ Indian Cricket League fold.
Shah has claimed that the IPL reserved the right to take legal action against Yousuf as he had been paid an advance of $125,000 for joining them. Even if he had not played in the League for any team, he was a contracted player with them.
“We reserve the right to take legal action against him if he has joined the Indian Cricket League,” Shah told Geo News.
The Indian board official said Yousuf was given a contract by the IPL on the insistence of the Pakistan Cricket Board which was keen he get a chance to play in the league after he broke away from the ICL in late 2007.
Yousuf’s decision to join the ICL comes at a time when he has filed an appeal in the Mumbai High Court against a stay order issued by an arbitrator against him playing for any other league.
The arbitrator had ruled after ICL had filed a legal case against Yousuf for breach of contract after the batsman first signed up for them in August, 2007 and then returned his advance payment and decided to get a contract in the Indian Premier League.
Update:
Karachi (PTI): Mohammad Yousuf is all set to sign a fresh contract with the Indian cricket League after being assured by legal advisers that the Indian Premier League has a very weak case against him to stop from playing in India.
“He will now officially rejoin the ICL in a fresh contract and could be playing in the league at the weekend,” a well-placed source told PTI.
Yousuf had developed second thoughts about signing up for the ICL after the IPL threatened to take him to court on the ground that he had signed with them.
But after assurance from legal advisers that IPL has a very weak case against him, Yousuf has now decided to ink a fresh deal with the ICL, sources said.
“Yousuf has been assured that since he originally had signed up for ICL and they had not dropped his claim on him, the IPL had no legal grounds to claim it had signed him on,” sources said.

Yousuf has made a great mistake by joining ICL for money.
PCB will continue to loose players to ICL as all the quality players who will not get selected in the National team will opt for ICL, there is only one solution to the problem that PCB should lift the ban on Players playing for ICL.
Mohammad Yousuf has formally confirmed that he has joined ICL.
“I had a misunderstanding with the ICL. Now that has been sorted out and I will play for them,” Yousuf, sporting a skull cap and traditional kurta-pyjama, said at a press conference here.
“But I still want to play for my country. This matter is in the hands of the (Pakistan) board, if I get a call-up, I will definitely represent the country.”
ICL business head Himanshu Mody said they had dropped the case against Yousuf.
“We have settled the case with Yousuf. We have signed him for a three-year deal,” Mody said.
He also claimed that the IPL could not take Yousuf to court because the batsman had not inked any deal with them.
“Yousuf has not taken any money from the IPL. There was no agreement between the two, so the IPL cannot take any action against him. However, if something does come up, we will stand by Yousuf,” Mody said.
It seems ICL is taking the same stance as PCB took against ICL in defense of Yousuf, initially Yousuf took money from ICL and later returned it back to them something which ICL denies.
It has been well established that Yousuf took US $ 125,000 as advance from IPL its not clear yet why he is denying the fact.He was a part of the IPL auction and the whole world knows about it. ICL lawyers somehow convinced Yousuf that IPL will not be able to stop him from playing in India, the situation will be clear in the next few days.
Meanwhile PCB has banned Mohammad Yousuf from participating in any type of cricket in Pakistan and has removed him from the central contract, its a big blow to Pakistan’ ODI and test team as Yousuf was their best batsman in the longer version of the game.
Scorpy
He is all set to make another Uturn, he will probably return back and say that he never went to join ICL he only went to take care of the legal matters with ICL, the threat by IPL of legal action will bring him back to his senses, there has been no official statement made by him on joining ICL so he can take any position. But he again showed his true colors and PCB should seriously consider to replace him.
No surprise and the update is even more shocking… I mean it is time to seriously flush him.
Am sure there is a better “committed” talent in Pakistan… he seem to be in the mood to only take care of his interests and clearly country doesn’t come first for him.
Karachi, Nov 4 (PTI) Pakistan’s senior batsman Mohammad Yousuf is having second thoughts on joining the ‘rebel’ Indian Cricket League (ICL) after threats from the Indian Premier League to take him to court for breach of contract with it.
Sources told PTI that Yousuf was recieved by former captain Inzamam-ul-Haq in New Delhi last evening and the duo consulted legal experts on Yousuf’s problems with ICL and IPL.
“One does not know what the legal experts exactly told Yousuf but the official announcement of his signing with the ICL could be delayed as he is having a second thought to the whole issue now,” one source said.
He said Yousuf was aware that he could find himself totally out in the cold if the IPL also lodged a legal case against him for rejoining the ICL.
“Obviously if Yousuf does play in the ICL it would be a coup for the organisers of the rebel league as the Pakistani batsman is a big name. So it would not be surprising if the IPL decide to spoil the party for him,” the source added.
Indian board officials have made it clear that Yousuf was contracted to play in the IPL and had also been given an advance payment on the insistence of the Pakistan board and if he signs again for the ICL they would take him to court.
To make matters worse, Yousuf is already embroiled in a legal battle with the ICL over a breach of contract case.
PCB legal counsel, Tafazzul Rizvi who was representing Yousuf in his legal battle against the ICL before the Indian arbitrator and the Mumbai High Court said he was shocked by reports that the senior batsman had flown to India to join the ‘rebel’ league.
“I don’t understand what he is trying to do because till few days back he was discussing the case with me to prepare for the next hearing,” Rizvi said. PTI

There is a very slim chance that he will ever play cricket anywhere in the world, I think his remaining playing years will be spent more in Law offices and court houses instead of a cricket ground.I think that Idiot has no comprehension what contractual obligation means and has no Idea of the consequences of a breach of contract.
i am yet to see more opportunistic and greedy player than him…
he is total shame to pak as well as game of cricket…
