Anil Kumble announced his retirement from Test cricket here on Sunday, leaving India with a huge task of finding a consistent match-winning spinner.

Anil Kumble announced his retirement  minutes after the tea break on the final day; Kumble then bowled four overs before the match was called off as a draw.

Although an announcement of his retirement was expected by the end of the series but nobody expected him to announce the retirement in the middle of the series, his dismal performance in the last few test series due to a persistent shoulder injury , Amit Mishra’s match winning performance in the second match and Dhoni’s superior captaincy skills were the main factors which prompted his retirement.

Anil served his country well, he was the most successful Indian bowler and the third highest wicket taker in the world 619 from 132 matches, no bowler has won India more matches than Kumble, he was never a big turner of the ball like Warne, but he was a bowler who knew his limitations and always bowled well within himself, his high arm action, quickness in the air , high bounce , the ability to bowl long spells and slight movement were his main weapons, but his biggest weapon was his discipline.

He will also be known for putting the team before himself, bowling with a broken jaw against the west Indies in the 2002 Antigua test and then trapping Brian Lara leg-before.He also scored a test 100 against England at Lords which shows that he was also a handy batsman.

It is being rumored that the last test between India and Australia will bring fare well for another Indian legend.
