Rajasthan finally secured their place in the semi finals beating KKR by six wickets, Warne won the toss and elected to field, KKR opened the innings with Butt and Hafeez, Hafeez continued his pathetic form with the bat and clearly looked uncomfortable the pitch was slow and the ball was not coming o to the bat and Hafeez holed one to mid on trying to lift Patel on top of the Mid on fielder. Salman Butt struck some beautiful cover drives and square cuts and was looking in fine touch, he struck two consecutive fours off Patel but the bowler had the final laugh when he bowled one straight and Butt was caught on his crease and was given Lbw, this has been a problem with Butts batting he has poor footwork he always looks to play on the off side, the two most common ways he gets out are either he plays away from the body and gives a catch in the slips or he fails to come forward on straighter ones and is caught on the crease, he is not a strong player on the leg and also does not have a strong on drive, big handicaps for an opener many a times we have seen that bowlers pack the field on the off and keep on feeding him outside the off if he fails to find the gaps he usually gets out trying to play above the fielders or if the bowler bowls him a straighter one bring slightly back at him he usually gets out lbw.
The early departure of Butt dropped the runrate as boundaries were hard to come by Hussey failed again and got out on 11, Das and Ganguly restored the innings, Das was looking good striking the ball cleanly he was dropped by Sohail Tanvir off the bowling off Watson a simple catch in the deep, Warne brought Tanvir into the attack in the next over and Tanvir bowled a perfect yorker and cleaned up Das, KKR managed to score 147 in the allotted 20 overs a score which was never enough for the strong and versatile batting line up of Rajasthan.
The KKR were playing without Shoaib Akhtar a decision which surprised me, there were rumours that Ganguly wanted to include Shoaib in his line up but coach Buchanon was against it, Umar Gul was included in place of Shoaib who bowled really well but didn’t got any support from his bowling partners who gave away too many runs also Ganguly made a poor decision of opening the bowling with inexperienced Dinda who was thrashed by Smith, he kept on bowling Smith on his pads and Smith kept on glancing him on fine leg for boundaries, Ishaant who had a perfect start to the tournament lost form after the first few games, although he made the first break through getting Asnodkar out on 5 but that was all what he could get. KKR gave 42 runs in the first five overs, Ganguly brought in Gul who bowled a double wicket maiden, first removing Sohail Tanvir who was promoted up the order as a pinch hitter, Tanvir struck a six and a four in the fifth over and was looking dangerous but Gul removed him in his first over and then removed smith who tried to hook him and gloved the ball to the keeper. The Rajasthan Royals were pegged back with the sudden fall of wickets, Ganguly removed the dangerous Watson clean bowled him on a ball which nipped back at him after pitching and uprooted the off stump, the KKR again made a mistake of using Hafeez as a batsman Ganguly should have brought Hafeez in after the fourth wicket fell, but despite his economical spells in some of the games KKR doesn’t want to use him as a bowler, Ganguly persisited with Agarkar who gave away 30 in 3 overs and bowled one more over himself in which Yousuf Pathan took him to cleaners Ganguly in the end bowled 2 overs giving away 24 runs.
Yousuf Pathan scored 48 off 18 balls with 5 fours and 3 sixes, he was fully supported by Kaif who scored 34 off 31 balls with 4 fours, except for a couple of inside edges yousuf completely dominated the KKR bowling.
Earlier Tanvir bowled beautifully for Rajasthan and took 3 for 26 taking his tally of wickets to 14, he will get the maximum wickets in the tournament.
The Rajasthan Royals are looking unbeatable, is there any weakness in that team? what strategy can opposing captains adopt to defeat them? How will they fare against PunjabXI or Mumbai Indians? Your thoughts on these questions will be appreciated.
