PCB bans Shoaib from playing for five years: Pacer can appeal within seven days
Shoaib Akhtar’s history of injuries and incidents Former cricketers lash out at PCB over Shoaib’s ban
Its Deja-vu all over again, its the same old script even the characters are the same, public enemy #1 Shoaib Akhtar receiving a heavy handed, career ending punishment from PCB for his indisciplined behavior and I suspect the end of this Soap opera will again be the same, a few weeks later the board will realize like any abusive husband that the punishment was heavy handed and life is difficult without his beloved, and like a wife desperate to save her marriage Shoaib will apologize and promise never to offend the board again both will renew their vows and will kiss and make up like any dysfunctional couple but of course only for a few months until their next fight happens.
Like any other dysfunctional couple both parties need expert counseling, Shoaib needs to be put on hormonal therapy so that his temper tantrums are controlled and the board needs to show some TLC [ tender love & Care] to its ace bowler who breaks down in every series just because of the work load, his performance does not justify his talent he is still the best bowler in the country and is being consistently mishandled, he should be convinced to shorten his run up, and proper physical and mental fitness help should be provided and if possible a better coach and captain should also be arranged.
PCB management created this current fiasco at a time when we are already facing extinction as far as International cricket is concerned, they could have easily taken care of this matter by fining Shoaib or by not giving him NOC to play in IPL but to impose a career ending ban over a media statement was a bit too heavy handed and it might backfire, IMO the days of the present management in office are numbered they should not have attracted the attention of the new administration by creating this fiasco this might be their last mistake.

pcb failed at this time
I am not trying to defend Shoaib Akhtar, but to ban him for life? That smacks of jealousy and personal animosity. Is Dr. Nasim Ashraf or his yes men no knowledge of Shoaib’s past history?
The sensible thing to do was to tell him: enough is enough.
We are taking no more. You will not be selected by us any further. You are free to play County cricket, Sheffield Shield, IPL, ICL, act in Bollywood or whatever you wish to do but no more cricket for Pakistan. PERIOD.
By banning him from playing cricket anywhere, you are depriving him his passion, his ego, his life-style, his lust for money and fame and above all, his livelyhood.
You have no right to do that. If you can’t get along, fine, part your ways in a civilised manner, not with a vendetta.
Sooner the PCB with its Doctor and his “Compounders” and all the Ullous and Sallus and that highly over-paid stupid coach are kicked out and a new, clean, experienced team with a vision takes over, the better.
All I have to say is that he is such a waste of talent and Osman Samiuddin of cricinfo had summed up his career perfectly,he is just a headline and he can still remain in headlines if he moves to bollywood. The politicians should not interfere in this matter his case should be referred to a panel of retired cricketers.
Shoaib Akhtar can only be useful in ODI’s, he can’t bowl more than 10 overs in a test match, the fools at PCB made him a hero,
He will be back, PCB bosses should stick to their guns and should bargain for his retirement from test matches, although he should be restored for ODI’s and T/20.
My heart says its Good Riddance but my mind says that he is still the best bowler in the country and perhaps the only match winning bowler,Sohail Khan is a good prospect but to say he is good enough to fill the void left by Akhtar is completely wrong.
Furthermore if Shoaib’s fitness is a concern then Umar gul and
Asif have also been unfit for quite sometime and they also breakdown frequently.Shoaib should reduce his run up in test matches if he wants to play for a few years more.
PCB banned him for the wrong reasons and many players have criticized the board when sidelined in the past, the punishment is too harsh.
Shoaib’s statement that he declined money offered to him for under performing is it a warning for somebody, I think if he knows something then he should be honest and forthcoming.
PCB faltered in the execution of their plan to get rid of Akhtar, Shoaib Akhtar might still be the fastest bowler in the world but his physical frailty and his temper tantrums have done enough damage to Pakistan cricket in recent times. He deserves this punishment but PCb should have just ignored him rather than imposing a farcial ban.
