Symonds IPL Jackpot is causing friction in the team
on February 23rd, 2008 at 12:02 amAccording to Australian news media Andrew Symonds $1.35 mil bid is already causing friction in the dressing room, while most of his team mates with the exception of Brett Lee and Gichrist will get less than an average Pura Cup player, Skipper Ricky Ponting will only get $ 400,000 and Ace batsman Mathew Hayden will only get $375,000 as opposed Roy’s whopping $35000 an hour price tag.
“That’s what they offered to pay for me, I didn’t ask for it,” Symonds said.
Ricky Ponting has already expressed his disappointment over the price he recieved. Interestingly soon after the bid he also snubbed Symonds for issuing a statement regarding not touring Pakistan.
Australian players have doubts in their minds that may be Symonds earned a high price because he declared himself unavailable for the Pakistan tour before the IPL bid. A tour which clashes with the IPL schedule this year.
Symonds made a clever move and got a higher price than his team mates, soon after the bid a stubborn CA softened its stance over the Pakistan tour, a tour which was highly unlikely to happen before the bid will take place now after some minor adjustments, sources are hinting that a lot of senior Aussie players who were against the tour before the bid and were more keen to IPL have now agreed to tour Pakistan because of their disappointment with the bidding process.
