A new chapter in international cricket’s history began when the auction of 77 cricketers completed in Hilton towers for a grand sum of $ 42 mil.
6 players became millionaires overnight:
1- Dhoni $1.5 mil India Cements (Chennai)
2- Andrew Symonds $1.35 mil Deccan Chronicle (Hyderabad)
3- Sachin Tendulkar $ 1.121 mil Mukesh Ambani’s Reliance (Mumbai)
4-Saurav Ganguly $1.092 mil Shahrukh Khan (Kolkata)
5- Yuvraj Singh $1.062 mil Preity Zinta (Mohali)
6- Rahul Dravid $1.035 mil Vijay Mallya’ UB Group (Bangalore)
The following players were in the $900,000 club:
- Sanath Jayasuriya $975,000 Mukesh Ambani (Mumbai)
- Ishant Sharma $950,000 Shahrukh Khan (Kolkata)
- Irfan Pathan $925,000 Priety Zinta (Mohali)
- Jacques Kallis $900,000 Vijay Mallya (Bangalore)
- Brett Lee $900,000 Priety Zinta (Mohali)
Shahrukh Khan was the biggest spender he spent $6,072,500 for 11 players.
India Cements (Chennai) spent $5,925,000 for 11 players.
Deccan Chronicle (Hyderabad) spent $5,885,000 for 11 players.
The worst and the most overvalued picks were as follows:
1-Mohammad Kaif (US$675,000), Yusuf Pathan (US$475,000) both guys are not even in the national team in the same team Younis Khan (US$225,000), Kamran Akmal (US$150,000) is a complete highway robbery and is unfair to International players.
2-MS Dhoni (US$1.5 million) and Suresh Raina (US$650,000) both of them highly over valued, in the same team Matthew Hayden gets (US$375,000) what a farce, good luck attracting these players in future.
3- Harbhajan Singh (US$850,000), and Robin Uthappa (US$800,000), Uthaapa might get axed from the national team , Harbhjan although a good pick but still over valued. In the same team Lasith Malinga gets (US$350,000) ,Dilhara Fernando (US$150,000), Loots Bosman (US$175,000) again not fair.
4-Most pundits are suggesting that Jacques Kallis (US$900,000) is over value, yes a little bit but Kallis is one of the best batsman in the world and a very good bowler. So if Kaif can get $ 650,000 then kallis is worth every penny.
5-David Hussey (US$675,000), Ishant Sharma (US$950,000) I know Ishant is the new star but still he is not worth this much and why Ricky ponting gets paid less than David Hussey, Poor Umar Gul who was the leading wicket taker in T/20 was the victim he gets only (US$150,000).
These International players might not feel inclined to give their 100% the way they have been robbed in the auction. The future of IPL looks bleak as only four International players can play at a time they will never gell together as a team, the intensity will not be there, it will be the cricket version of WWF. Next year I can guarantee IPL will not be able to secure as many International players as it did this year.

Symonds took a U turn about his stand for not going to Pakistan after he was reminded by Ponting and CA that to pull out of from the tour will be a breach of country, now he says he might be touring Pakistan if the tour goes ahead. Symonds was the highest paid cricketer In IPL after Dhoni, his team Hyderabad must be pulling their hair as symmo
outfoxed them by making statement that he will not be touring to Pakistan and will be available for the IPL this season and as a result he got the biggest paycheck in comparison to some of his teammates who couldn’t fetch a decent amount just because their availability for IPL was not confirmed.

Here are some random thoughts that I think will make the IPL extremely exciting to watch.
Saurav Ganguly ordering Ponting from one field position to another will be a sight.
Same goes for Ganguly and Shoaib Akhtar who have had numerous on field battles but will now turn up for Kolkata and Ganguly will throw the new ball to Akhtar thanking God that he is not the striker this time round.
When Ganguly throws the ball to Ishant Sharma, Ponting will be relieved that he is on the same team as the kid.
Shane Warne telling Greame Smith to go out there and rip the bowling apart. Now how ’bout that? Smith and Warnie in the same team colours!
Dhoni keeping wicket to Murali and Sangakkara doing the same to Lee. That surely is exciting stuff.
Mohammad Asif sharing the new ball with his Idol Glen McGrath.
It seems that all the team owners have paid more for the all-rounders,T20 specialists and youngsters rather than the established stars.
Most of the owners feel that the younger players will be able to serve the team more effectively than the older ones, who will retire in 2-3 years. I feel players like M.Clarke, Johnson would have earned a lot more than Ponting, Hayden etc. had they participated.
Also, most of the Aussies, except perhaps Symonds would not be available in the first season. The Aussies who are likely to be available, D.Hussey and C.White have also been paid more than Hayden and Ponting.
The Indian players like Mohd.Kaif, Raina and M.Tiwary have had an excellent domestic season and are great fielders. Y.Pathan is a T20 specialist as well as an all-rounder and he too has had a good domestic season. Plus, all these players will be available for all of the IPL matches.
So I think the players have been chosen on the basis of their form and availability.
The indian cricket league will commence from 18th Aapril and conclude with the final on 1st June . The cricket should be extremely competetive and entertaining. Notice how little maney the Pakistani players went for. This ipl league is a huge promotion for the game of cricket and an excellent enterprising idea.
