PPl who say IPL kolkata have paid more for david hussey probably dont know him.. do som research..he is the 20-20 god in australia..named best player of the season nd is cming into the main australia team.
Samy,
You are right Jayasuriya will be available and also Pollock, but how will they manage without Malinga,Fernando, and Bosman.
I am sure they have domestic players to fill in but I think it will be easier for the teams who picked more International players and especially from different countries, such teams will have advantage over the others.
But it will be a treat to watch Sachin and Jayasuriya to open for the same team. Jayasuriya is going through a bad patch but he might play better on Indian Pitches.
Wasim,
Yes, SL are touring West Indies in March/April so most of their players will not be available for the IPL. But Jayasuriya will play since he was not selected for that tour. Pollock too will play and I feel he will be very useful since he can play the big shots down the order even though his bowling might not be that effective.
Samy:
In every playing 11 only 4 International players can play at a time the rest will be from India, Mumbai’s picks are all great players but with the exception of Sachin I do not have any confident in any one of them Pollock is a good bowler but may be not for T/20, Harbhajan is a good pick his T/20 record is good, Malinga will be too expensive,I think teams which have picked more players for their dollars will perform better especially those whose players were picked from different countries as if one country is playing International cricket its players might not be available for IPL, Mumbai has three players fron Sri lanka so if Sri lanka are on International tour these three might not be available.
Wasim,
I am not too sure how many young players will get a chance, since there would be only 2-3 domestic players in the playing XI of every team, the rest being the foriegn players and the established India players. I’m also not too sure how good the quality of the cricket will be, since most of the Indian pitches, being slow and low, are not suited for T20. I do hope that the BCCI will try to improve the grounds and playing surfaces.
The Mumbai team contains some good bowlers like Malinga, Fernando and Bhajji. They also have a very good all-rounder in Pollock. The opening combo of Sachin and Jayasuriya seems to be the most dangerous one in the IPL. However, they are the only team not having an international-level ‘keeper-batsman. So I think they might have to ask Uthappa to keep, or they will have to go with Mumbai’s keeper in the Ranji trophy, V.Samant, who does not have a very good batting average but is a safe keeper. They have also lost some of the top local players like R.Sharma, Agarkar and R.Powar to other teams. The middle-order looks weak as well. So I don’t think they have a good chance of getting into the finals.
Among the other teams, Hyderabad, Chennai and Kolkata look like the strongest. Delhi will be the dark-horses since most of India’s U-19 WC players will play for Delhi and the Delhi and UP Ranji teams are the strongest in India.
Samy:
I think the infrastructure will get improved and India might be able to find a few new players,it will certainly have no affect on India’s domestic cricket as T/20 is entirely a different ball game, but some young players might get valuable experience by playing with or against some International stars.
Most of the International players did not recieve a fair price, this might reduce the intensity and committment of these players,Ricky Ponting has already expressed his dissatisfaction in a statement today he even hinted that most of the Aussie players wll not be able to play in this tournament in its first two years, he also kind of sent a warning to the overly excited Symonds that if he pulls out from Pakistan tour then it will be breach of his CA contract.
ICC by refusing to carve out a separate slot for IPL in its FTP has caused a severe blow to the league and its survival.
If those big names fail to play in its first year, the whole league will become a dull affair and might cause serious financial losses to the franchise owners.
By paying players like Kaif double the amount than Matthew hayden IPL owners have made a serious mistake the International players will not be as keen to play IPL as they were before the auction.
Anyways what do you think about Mumbai team. My favorite teams are Hyderabad and Kolkata I think both of them have the ability to reach the finals, although Hyderabad’s pace attack is single dimensional.
Through the IPL, the BCCI is just shirking away from it’s main responsibility, which is to improve the quality of cricket at the domestic level. The IPL is not going to improve the quality of Indian pitches and stadiums nor will it help improve the umpiring standards of the country. The domestic and U-19 players will not get too much of a chance and neither will the IPL help produce future India cricketers. It will only make the BCCI and the established players a whole lot richer than they already are.
Now that it has not been included in ICC’s FTP, it will also cause player retirements. So I don’t think it will be of benefit to anyone other than the team owners and the BCCI in the long-term.
Symonds says that he is not willing to put his life in danger so he is not willing to travel to Pakistan,In the recent Past Australia A was sent to pakistan and they completed the tour without any problem the players were found roaming in shopping malls without any fear what so ever. Now again the same A team will be sent to Pakistan as the seniors are not willing to risk their lives, so should we assume that the “A team” consists of “B class” citizens whose lives are not important.
Come on Symonds be honest the fact is that your IPL paycheck will be deducted on prorata basis for the days you will be on tour to Pakistan and you do not want to loose 70 to 80 thousand dollars per week while you are away from IPL.
Interesting turn of events, ICC has refused to carve a separate window for IPL and has made it clear that the ICC’s FTP will stay in place until 2012 and until then IPL will have to release foreign players for International matches.
A conflict will create problems not only for IPL but also for different boards players are already making excuses to play IPL than go on National tours.
The following is the analysis of the picks made by different teams.
Jaipur is one example they paid too much for Kaif they could have brought a big star in this price.Smith and Akmal were the only two good picks in their line up Shane warne wont be the same anymore.Good thing is that they didnt use all of their salary cap and they might have room for future acquisitions.
Chennai
Was very aggressive in the beginning and they spent a lot of money.Murali, Hayden,Albie Morkel,Fleming and Hussey were all good picks but they paid too much for Dhoni. They failed to pick good pace bowlers, Ntini was not a good choice.
Mumbai
They made some good picks but I believe they paid way too much for Uthappa and Jayasuriya they could have added more depth to their batting they picked a balanced bowling line up.
Bangalore
They have an excellent pace attack Dale Steyn, Nathan Bracken, and Zaheer Khan and they also have Kumble and Kallis ,their batting line up is more suited to the test format except Boucher they do not have any pinch hitter. But still their team is good.
Hyderabad
They were the clear winners of the Auction, they picked the biggest stars and almost all of them are most suitable to the T20 format. In fact the best batting combination out of all the teams but if they had picked Umar gul instead of Zoysa their bowling combination could have been perfect.Symonds, Afridi, Gilly and Gibbs all in one team, the opposition bowlers will have no respite.
Mohali
Also made some good picks their bowling line up is really good they are only lacking in the spin department.
Kolkata
Probably the second most star studded team, their bowling line up is good but injury prone, they paid too much for David Hussey he is not worth that much, they could have picked a big name in this price.
Delhi
Asif and Mcgrath are not suitable for t/20 format.Malik was a good pick they Gambhir and Sehwag,Ab deviliers and Dilshan
some how their batting line up on paper looks good but most of the players are inconsistent. But this team if clicks can create upsets.
Fair teams and outstanding players. The ipl should be great fun . I was dissapointed about the baord’s reaction and am looking forward to the mega event.
All the Pakistani players went for a lot less than their worth only Afridi and Malik and Asif fetched a reasonable amount the rest of them would be regretting why they went for auction, the Indian players were paid more than their foreign counterparts regardless of their capabilities.
