RESURGENT India last night stormed to their greatest victory on foreign soil, ensuring Australia’s quest for a record-breaking 17th straight Test win went up in smoke.
India also sent a strong message that Australia’s days of dominance are under threat after a stunning 72-run win in the third Test at the WACA Ground. Chasing 413 to win, the world champions were rolled for 340 to lose an enthralling contest inside four days.
The win sparked wild scenes of joy in the Indian camp, with off-spinner Harbhajan Singh – the 12th man for this Test – racing on to the ground waving his nation’s flag.
Surprise bowling weapon Virender Sehwag labelled the win as one of India’s greatest. “It’s a great match for us. It was a bouncy wicket and Australia had four fast bowlers,” he said.
In a drama-filled contest, there was an unexpected turn late in the day when Mitchell Johnson (50 not out) surged to his maiden Test half-century. With Stuart Clark (32 off 35 balls), they added 73 runs in 12.5 overs in a free-wheeling ninth-wicket stand.
This reduced the target to under three figures and had many starting to think the impossible was within reach, but Clark’s dismissal was soon followed by Shaun Tait’s (4).
There was to be no denying India, who, in a repeat of their miraculous Kolkata comeback win in 2001, terminated Australia’s long winning streak.
While Australia has an unbeatable 2-1 series lead and has retained the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, the tourists can still force a drawn series if they prevail in Adelaide, beginning on Wednesday.
India began this match at the almost unbackable odds of $9, but boldly ignored history and reputation to forge their maiden Test victory in Perth.
It was Australia’s first loss on home soil since India prevailed in Adelaide four years ago.
Australia’s selectors were last night considering at least two changes for Adelaide, with Tait almost certain to be axed and spinner Brad Hogg recalled.
Opener Chris Rogers will also be dropped if Matthew Hayden has recovered from a hamstring strain.
Sehwag, the man India did not want in Melbourne and Sydney, became a surprise giant killer when his part-time off-spin claimed a dangerous Adam Gilchrist (15) and Brett Lee (0) in a match-winning spell just before tea.
There was an inspired spell of fast bowling from teenage beanpole Ishant Sharma and two contentious lbw decisions to set the tourists on their way to a famous victory.
Michael Clarke (81) was the Australian to offer greatest resistance, producing one of the more patient knocks of his career before he was stumped off Anil Kumble just after tea.
On a pitch offering turn and bounce, skipper Kumble’s gamble to introduce Sehwag was an inspired move.
In his first over he bowled Gilchrist around his legs and followed up next over when Lee squeezed a catch to VVS Laxman at silly mid-off.
Gilchrist heads to Adelaide with questions over his batting as he is averaging just 22.66 through six innings this series.
Ponting’s modest summer with the bat continued when Sharma found the edge which was accepted by Rahul Dravid at first slip.
Hussey was unlucky to be given out by umpire Rauf as the RP Singh delivery would have cleared the stumps, while Symonds was sent on his way despite a thick inside edge sending the ball into his pad off Kumble’s leg-spin.

Amit,
I fully agree that we have to look at the future. But in Australian conditions, suppose we are 20/3 or something. India would need someone who can really dig in, help rebuild the innings and form a partnership. Dravid is the one batsman who can do this, and help guide the young players. Dravid has not looked at his best in recent series, but his experience could be vital.
Ganguly too can provide good starts, but his fielding looked even worse at Perth, and his one-day form hasn’t been as good as his Test one.
But all his supporters have gone on the warpath again. Someone might even demand a bharat ratna for him as compensation! I feel he’ll have a great career in politics if he takes it up after retirement.
Still, I think he is a very good batsman and can go on for 2-3 years, provided he is in form and is fit enough.
Amit P,
I really like Hindustantimes and yes I agree with you that it is more moderate than other Indian newspapers. But I don’t read any other newspaper. Hindustantimes is a very established newspaper and the way it has modernised is really a wonder. I also like reading their “tabloid” section although a lot of it is media sensationalism and exaggeration
Yes full marks to you for praising Kashmiri and Punjabi kudi
I feel rejuvenated whenever I read or hear the phrase “kudi”
I hope I don’t get sacked from CF management for my perverted views
@ramiz
First i didnt have the video of those close calls so i found a way to put my words here through cricinfo. Otherwise i wud have paste the link here. And until reading ur comments i always find cricinfo is reliable source since it belongs to espnstarsports. I agree that there are many indians involved in this site but just a reminder … that the commentators were Jenny Thompson and Jamie Alter for that day.
All i was trying is to put my view that both these batsmen survived very close calls before.
Btw going by some of the “masala”(those i havent found on many aussies site which i visit quite frquently) putting here i am curious to know if BCCI have that kinda influence on ICC then how can some1 justify the tame exit of team india from world cup 2007. I always find conspiracy theory to be good masala for my lateral thinking but hardly believe one :d
@Khansaab
HindustanTimes is still somewhere around moderate as far as pakistan is concerned …. i suspect u read IndianExpress … IE put their views very harshly on pakistan topics … and same goes with pakistani news agency …. some moderate and some harsh. But i bet its fun reading all those views
. Its eternal .. lol
And nobody can deny the beauty of kashmiri and punjabi kudi
@Amar & Samy
Though i personally dont happy with dravid’ exclusion but u need to look at future and sooner u look better will be the result. Dravid is the kind of guy who can cope with that but i am not sure of ganguly. Get ready for his desperate comments and “sentimental” supports for him all around the corner from media to bongs. And yeah …. century is more likely for him on adelaide specially after failure on perth and exclusion from odi.
Amar
Salim Malik was the best player of spin bowling the world has seen,
Shane warne could never got his wicket in his career,I dont think he threw away his wicket the shot was on as the bowl was pitched way to short but kumble bowled a faster one, malik was decieved with the pace.
amit.p
ur posting the ball by ball commentary from a site that has majority indian commentators on it. they are always biased in favour of india. i watch most matches on the net, and i also have that website open and i read the ball by ball commentary on almost every ball. you can clearly see for instance that when india is playing and bowling, say even it is seen clearly that after lbw appeal the ball was going down leg side, the commentator would write something like “close appeal, bowler is frustrated” whereas if the same ball hits an indian batsman, he will write “appeal by the bowlers, but not out as replay shows ball clearly not in line”.
so if you want to mention ball by ball commentary plz go on a site that doesnt have so many indian commentators.
Amar,
I don’t think you read my message properly- I said all my close family is in India. They have been brought up with Hindus. I have visited India twice in my life. I read the Hindustantimes everyday to know more about Indian life and culture and also to see how biased Indian media is against Pakistan. I watch Star News (although I don’t understand the Hindi) and NDTV (English news channel) quite frequently to know more about India as well. Off the top of my head I can tell you about the different states in India, their geographical location, the rivers, cultures, sightseeing spots, demographics, political parties, politicians etc etc.
I seriously doubt you know this much about Pakistan. There was never a point “how many Hindus I can observe in Pakistan” my dear because I don’t even live in Pakistan. Yes there are many beautiful places in Pakistan especially in the North but the females in Punjab and Kashmir are more beautiful than anything else in the country (and Punjabis and Kashmiris probably make for about 60-70% of Pakistan’s population) so if you want to look at something in Pakistan, that is what you need to look out for
I have visited Nainitaal in UP which is a tourist attraction, the place where my dad grew up. He was the first Muslim boy to be admitted into the local school and then the second Muslim boy who was admitted was his younger brother. They were the only 2 Muslims in the entire school. Anyway, Nainitaal is a beautiful place and we have seen many movies where they have shot around a few places in Nainitaal. There are obviously plenty of tourist attractions in India, much more than Pakistan as almost half of Pakistan really is barren and unproductive land.
India’s ODI squad was announced. And Ganguly has been dropped…again. And Dravid too hasn’t been recalled.
And Ganguly’s replacement SK Raina, who got a recall after more than a year will have to prove himself against the Aussies and Lankans.
I guess the selectors wanted to test all the youngsters in tough conditions. India also need to improve their fielding standards in ODIs considerably, and this task has been made simpler because of the omission of two of India’s worst fielders.
But with Yuvraj not fit and out of form, I think they should have included either Dravid or Ganguly on the basis of their experience. I hope this will spur both of them on to do well at Adelaide.
This also means that Sehwag will probably open along with Sachin. I don’t think Viru has completely regained his touch and also, he is a better Test than ODI player. It’ll be great if he scores but I feel he will only frustrate the supporters with his reckless batting.
Javed…Lol..we finally something common to agree upon…i can see ..india to lose the 4th test!!
Just read the news that sourav is out of ODI squad for better fielders!! now trust the bongs to burn the posters of the selection committie!!
this is the best soap opera cum reality show!! BCCI and selection of indian cricket team..lol
only one thing bothers me though..why couldnt they come up with the squad after the 4th test? will it not affect ganguly and dravid during 4th test?
and javed you can clearly hear the west indian commentator stating the lbw was legit. ….i know it would be difficult for us to agree on this as indians and pakistanis..but neutrals who have seen the clip clearly say only the afridi was 50 50 decision…still i guess his umpiring looks a lot better than the one i have seen in australia…as for his ferrari hand..well some people prefer a ferrari and some loke slow death bucknor prefer the bicycle…but javed watch other matches where jaiprakash has umpired..he always moves around in a ferrari..and hes not the only one i tell you…and at least it gives the impression about the umpire being very confident of his decision.
My dear Viggy-lanti
I guess you were born in 1995 so being a tween queen of Amsterdam you can call me …….. uncle. And, since how long have you been reading my posts that you say: “Why are you always criticizing India?”
I would have certainly posted those comments before the match but because I did not take such comments seriously, I ignored it. Secondly you may have noticed that I wasn’t here on this blog during that time as I was pre-occupied with some other work. But, next time if he goes again and if he comes back again with such comments I will certainly not disappoint you and you can do better in your monthly exams and make your mother happy with your results, just like the Indian team did recently at Perth.
As regards predictions, I am not Nostradamus to predict future. However, my comments were in line to what wasim saqib has said that perhaps the ICC wanted to make it even this time. There are so many comments of similar nature and people always discuss them and postmortem the umpiring decisions, don’t you remember the Sydney Test was dissected into pieces and poor Bucknor was axed because of the whining and complaining by the Indians?
Just to give you some peace of mind BUT this is not a prediction its a calculated assessment, India is going to loose the 4th test. Because, the Aussies are going to come and hit back very strongly. I hope this won’t ruin your monthly exams?
Wasim ..what did you feel about the Malik dismissal?
how could he just slog cross batted and be bowled?the more i look at it the more suspicious i get…i never am able to tell if azhar jadeja mongia and malik were playing straight when i watch some of their dismissals..
As for india i think we will lose the fourth test..trust the aussies to come back very very strongly…the indian win sure was hard fought but if one goes by past trends the indian team cant maintain the tempo…i though have no complaints if they can maintain the same and achieve a draw.
And khansab ..i wouldnt know how many hindu’s you can observe in pakistan to know more about india and hindusim apart from a few online..but i got loads of friends here in india from all major and minor sects ..and yes ofcourse the parsis as well as jews christians etc..so yes i have ample knowledge about the world and its religions..although apart from pakistani cricket and politics ..i dont think i know much about it..but i have seen a few pics of NWFP and the northern areas..and the hindu kush..if possible would surely love to visit them someday…very beautiful places indeed.
Amar
Or, should I address you by your other name?
I’ve noticed that u-tube link with a wink above and I must tell you that I have seen that match live on TV on a much bigger and brighter screen than the 6 inches u-tube dark and night vision like recordings. Also, I do remember the incidents very clearly. I really don’t understand your intentions of posting that link here.
First of all you should find a better quality video and watch the whole of the second innings rather than a ten minute bad quality video clipping and that too extremely dark.
You will see that the first decision given by umpire Jayaprakash against Shahid Afridi was wrong. He was clearly not out, mongia claimed a bogus catch and Jayaprakash raised his finger like a Ferrari racing from 0-60 in 4 seconds. Thats the reason Afridi stayed at the crease for a little longer time and got reprimanded by the match referee Smith.
I am quoting below the newspaper clippings from that time, covered by Peter Deeley and Shoaib Ahmad of Dawn, both these articles were written after the match when Kumble was assisted by Jayaprakash.
Shoaib Ahmad Dawn newspaper
“Without detracting from his due credit for a rare distinction it was a continued feat in which Jayaparkash, the novice umpire had a hand. Srinath bowling from other end says to it that the tenth wicket doesn’t fall in his bag and Kumble completes the desired tally.”

Wasim criticism sours ‘friendship’
By Peter Deeley in Delhi
“Although Wasim Akram did not name umpire Jayaprakash, he was standing at the end from which Anil Kumble took all his 10 wickets.
Opening batsman Shahid Afridi got a reprimand from Smith (match referee) for staying too long after he had been given out caught behind and there were also three leg-before decisions and two bat-pad catches. ”
Obviously Ijaz Ahmad was also not out and not only the two LBW decisions but that there were a few more bat and pad decisions that were clearly not outs. There is also a news paper clipping in which Ijaz had a row with Indian journalists who came into the Pakistani dressing room and were posing ridiculous questions.
Dear Uncle Javed.A.Khan,
Why you are always criticising India even when they won the match and i think Australians wont like to lose a game when they are about to make a world record winning streak. If you know the result of this match on the first day of this test that too before the toss itself (ofcourse through your friend who have gone to Australia on a business trip) you could have posted your comments on the first day itself and we Indians would have been happier four days before itself. Why you waited till the match ended and Indians came out victorious. Please tell us the predictions for the fourth test also (May be some of your friends will be in Australia on a business trip, i hope so). I am very much eager to know the result of the fourth test also because my mother wont allow me to watch the match as my monthly exams are going to get started.
Very much eagerly waiting,
viggy1995
15.3 Kumble to Hussey, no run, first loud appeal of the day, as Hussey strides forward to one that pitches on off and spins in sharply, thats a very good shout as the ball clips the front pad but Bowden shakes his head, it looked like hitting middle stump but perhaps heights the factor
23.4 Sharma to Ponting, no run, oh good shout! Nips back in off the seam, keeping low, and the uneven bounce catches Ponting on the hop, late on the stroke, rapped on the knee roll just in line of the stumps but Bowden says no, that would have gone over
29.3 Sharma to Ponting, no run, but thats a good shout! Pitches fuller, Ponting gets the front foot outside the line but doesn’t offer a shot, kicking it away, the ball nips back in sharply, Bowden shakes the head but replays show it would have clipped the top of leg stump
38.6 Singh to Hussey, no run, fuller, just, rapping Hussey on the pads as he plays forward, the bat not coming into the frame, RP and the slips appeal but Rauf reckons that was outside the line of impact, as the batsman strode well forward
These above calls were very tight …. some even tighter than sachin and dhoni dismissals. Only symonds dismissal was shocker but again so was of dravid in second inning … his bat brushed the pad and was given caught behind. And yeah both were furious after their dismissal. After all it was all even out .. unlike sydney where almost every decision went in the favor of aussies.
Amar:
Punjabi is not a vulgar language its the mind that speaks it and percieves it is vulgar. Almost every language of the world contains profain expressions, take english for example, you will find an equivalent of every punjabi profanity in English.
The term Chak de is by no means a profane term.
The full expression is chak de phattey,
English translation will be “send them packing”
Urdu translation will be Boriya bister gol karwa dena
Punjabi is the most intimate language, the problem is that in Punjab whether east or west, it changes its dilect and vocabulary after every 100 km and the sad part is that in todays world Urban slang no matter which language you pick up is vulgar.
The majority of sufiana kalam is in punjabi. It all depends on how you want to use the language.
Khansahab and Amar
Can you watch the video again, Afridi was clearly not out as the ball clearly missed his bat and touched his pad only, as regards Yousuf
you can clearly see his foot was planted way forward and out side the off stump in fact you can see his offstump, the third one is of Ijaz he was also again way forward and the ball was going down the leg side.
Amar:
I have posted the highlights of the 4th day you can see for yourself the dismissal of symonds and hussey also if you watch the highlights of Australia’s first innings you will agains see Bad decisions going India’s way.
I think finally justice was done and for that Indians should thank Asad Rauf .
wasim saqib
The 2nd line of your first post that the ICC wanted to make it even is something that many people have been talking about. Although the match is over and India has won it and on records its a win and nothing can be undone. Yet the talk continues.
On the first day of this test match I was with a few friends and one of my friends who has recently returned from a business trip to Australia was saying even before the toss; “mark my words the Australians and the ICC have decided this match in India’s favour.” To which we all laughed. Because, I never take such comments seriously.
But, he was adamant and he said, I am telling you that I have been in that circle of some very important Indian businessmen who want this series to be interesting and not one sided. Also, they want to please India for settling the matter amicably and not canceling the tour. We all laughed again at him and he was serious and he said, you will see and if India doesn’t win this match, I will take you all for a dinner at my expense.
Anyways, the only time the Australians slacked was in their first innings, they all got out cheaply. The first innings lead was the difference between winning and defeat. According to my friend even in the end with Mitchel Johnson slogging was all part of the game.
Anyways, the good thing is, the jinx is broken and the winning streak is over. Whether Mathew Hayden’s presence would have made the difference is only a hypothetical question now.
As regards poor umpiring decision, I think Rauf was right when he over ruled the appeal against Jaffer in the first innings i.e., on the catch that wasn’t. He was smart enough to see the ball had hit the arm guard. Although Gilchrist claimed it very strongly and Ricky Pointing showed total dissatisfaction and made faces.
Also, Rauf was absolutely right in giving Tendulkar LBW in the second innings. Tendulkar himself started walking without looking at Asad Rauf and the replay and the hawk-eye confirmed he was plumb LBW. So, the notion that Ian Chappell was bragging so vociferously that in Perth on WACA you should NOT give anyone LBW because of the height and was trying to undermine the efforts and judgment of Asad Rauf. Its wrong, Ian should not consider himself an authority.
Generally the ball was bouncing but, there were a couple of balls that went very low, as low as six inches above the ground, luckily those balls were tackled by the batsmen. One of Ishaant Sharma’s bouncer was so high that the commentator was saying he never saw such a high bouncer, he exaggerated by saying it must have gone as high as 20 feet? Symonds was the batsman then he simply looked at the ball from below under!
I want to say congrats to my Indian friends for this historic victory over Australia.
Dr Haroon

Amar,
Thanks for the compliment about my level of education and knowledge about India. I understand you are an Indian but it just so happens that all my close family hails from Northern India and my family has actually no close relatives in Pakistan as everyone is in India. The information I provided was based on personal observation as well as reading articles and reports about modern India. I daresay my knowledge of India and Hinduism is likely to far exceed your knowledge of Pakistan or Islam.
As for what I mean when I mentioned “good looks”- next time a match is being played in Gaddafi stadium in Lahore, try observing the ladies. I am a member of many sites that are owned by Indians where the majority of posters are Indian. The notion of “Punjabi beauty” is uniform amongst almost everyone on those sites. In fact many of them openly state they only watch matches in Lahore to look at the girls.
There is hardly anything “Punjabi” about me my friend with the obvious exception of my handsome looks
My family actually hails from Northern India although our ancestry is Pathan, hailing from Afghanistan. But I don’t like the way people start insulting a language because language is merely spoken words. Yes, if you are swearing in a particular language, that is bad but a language by itself should not be criticised. Punjabi is also the most prominent language spoken in Pakistan- so I guess there is a bit of patriotism there as well when I don’t like to see someone mentioning something untoward about something that can be largely associated with Pakistan. Yes there can always be reasonable criticism but if it is something so unreasonable as saying that a language is “vulgar”, I feel it is necessary to respond.
Although khansahab’s retort to Amar was responded in a befitting manner but a tad harsh I think. So, just a clarification here guys.
I hail from Punjab and honestly wasn’t offended at all but I can’t speak for others. Often when we used to have intellectual discussions at school or college, we used to compare how Punjabi sounds more abrasive, harsh or even vulgar sometimes compared to say Urdu which is much richer and Shaista or for that matter how French sounds so sweet and romantic. But not all Punjabi sounds the same. Its different even in various Punjab regions of Pakistan.
Similarly, some of the regional Indian languages sound rough too such as Tamil. When you hear two Tamils talking, the prominent sound is just vurray…vurray….vurray. Every day Arabic for instance sounds as though people are having an argument but when you hear Qiratt, it sound so beautiful and like music to ears.
These are just different perceptions of hearing others speak and there is no doubt some sounds are better than others. We wouldn’t have had music or poetry if people didn’t go in pursuit of hearing something different and sweet.
I am proud to be Punjabi as we all should be of our own roots. Different cultures and personalities is what makes life interesting and intrigues people enough to travel and explore the world and other cultures.
A language should be big enough to take any criticism on the chin. By writing something it’s often difficult to judge the tone of what is being said or written in this case. The difference is how you say it. A comedian can get by in saying anything controversial. Whereas, if I were to repeat the same joke in a different tone someone might get offended. One of my English bosses mimics Indian and Chinese accents so wonderfully that every time I hear it, I burst out laughing as he does it comically and has always something funny to say.
And khansab please define ” good looks “..i just missed out on that..
Thanks amit for the explanation…and Khansab..i didnt mean it to be vulgar in the phonetic sense..just that its got a lot of cuss words as a language..and you need to educate yourself a bit more about the most industrious ambitious good looking and what not race on planet in india!!..makes a funny read..ok they do have major presence in bollywood but other fields..a strict no no..and the comment was in a bit of jest as well..but apologies if i hurt the punjabi in you.
@Amar
“dunno why the punjabi language gets promoted so much!!”
Chopras, johars, kapoors and many influential film producers are from punjab so every film of yashraj or johars got lots of punjabi masalas in their films. By the way i dont know literal meaning of “chakh de”.
@khansaab
You are getting too sentimental. Its common notion in India that Delhi side language is too offensive and they use slang much more frequent than any other region. Any one in India not from punjab- delhi side find it true when they face delhi crowd first time. Btw pakistani side punjabi language is little bit different i think .. mix of urdu and punjabi. I think this is what Amar trying to say.
And yes its true that punjabi are very hard-working and good looking people, but its overstatement that they are “most ambitious , talented and enterprising”. Talent is all over spread in India …. from Bengal ,Assam to central India to south India.
Btw for me hindi and urdu is not much different in terms of hearing effect. How can u find hindi too “vulgur” .. am just curious. Sanskrit .. i can imagine, coz u hardly hear Sanskrit so may be its painful for hearing just like arabic for me. But i absolutely love urdu …. many a times i dont understand the meaning but just listen all those ghazals of beghum akhtar and menhdi hassan.
‘Chak De’ is a hockey anthem and many of India’s hockey players are Punjabis.
I’m not sure but I think it means ‘Go for it India’
Amar,
The reason I have allowed your post regarding your views on the Punjabi language, is because I want CF visitors to see what you have written and I also then want them to read this response that I have composed for you.
If any visitor ever again makes a remark about someone’s language, culture or religion, it will not be allowed unless it is a retaliatory comment that is not abusive.
Language is merely words and a means of expression. As such there is no “clean language” or “vulgar language”. If it sounds vulgar to you that is your own problem. Most Punjabis will find your comments offensive as Punjabi people adore their language and their roots. I don’t think it sounds vulgar but that may be because I am used to hearing it, hailing from Pakistan where it is the most prominent language. I actually consider Hindi and Sanskrit as unpleasant sounding languages. When you see Indian channels and hear people speaking in Hindi or Sanskrit, it seems like someone is letting out a barrage of vulgarity and insults. Of course I am only saying this now that you have insulted a language that will offend sentiments of visitors of CF.
The reason why Punjabi language gets promoted in India is because a large number of people at the top who have influence in society are Punjabis. The top surgeons and businessmen in India are Punjabi and of course a large number of Indian armed forces are Punjabi too. Your entertainment industry also features majority Punjabis. Apart from a handful of “Khans” (Pathans), “Sens” (Bengalis) and a few people from Kerala and the South, everyone more or less is a Punjabi in Bollywood, which is a major source of the GDP in your country. So no wonder Punjabi gets promoted so much.
Have some respect for the most enterprising, ambitious, talented and good looking people in your country!
Amar,
Kumble has been India’s greatest spinner and one of the best spinners to ever have played the game, but your video link does not provide a slow motion replay for Ijaz Ahmed’s and Saeed Anwar’s dismissal. Yes you correctly stated that there was some doubt about Afridi’s dismissal, but in my view Yousuf’s dismissal was also a 50-50 chance because he was well forward and the ball had been delivered from an angle, although it did appear to have hit him in line. There could have been a height issue as well as I think ball hit him around the kneeroll.
I am not saying here that Ijaz Ahmed and Saeed Anwar were not out, but unless there can be a slow motion replay to see where the ball hit them, there is no point in attempting to establish something. I don’t think all the LBW decisions were plumb, as you and many other Indians seem to suggest.
Also, may I be allowed to suggest here that historically Indian umpires have been perceived to be the most biased- I read this in an article a few years ago that was written by an English journalist. It was quite disappointing to see the lack of reaction by the crowd to those balls that were struck for 4 by the Pakistani batsmen.
Obviously all this does not take away from Kumble the fact that he has been one of the best spinners and possibly India’s greatest matchwinner.
yep god knows what that chuk de means..dunno why the punjabi language gets promoted so much!! its the most vulgar language..
…Oh yeah you’ve mentioned it…
For a 19-year old, that was a very good spell.
Amar, also don’t forget that Ricky Ponting was lucky to survive a few close decisions while facing Ishant Sharma.
well i am agree with the wasim bhai that umpiring is win game for the india
Good report by the writer.
The cocky way that Australia batted in their first innings has actually brought their downfall.
Times of India has labelled the Australians again as “arrogant and abrasive”. What’s going on right now over there in India, it’s not so difficult to say who is more suited to this label. We all know how they behaved after winning a T20 competition, which was not even a world cup, as though they have won the world war.
If you are or have remained on top of the world for well over a decade then one can say you have a right to be a little arrogant. Somehow it suits champions but not also rans.
Now it’s all ‘Chak De India’ going on all over everywhere. Can someone tell me what this paindoo sounding slogan really means?
So India have done it again. And that too at Perth of all places. India have managed to maintain their run of winning at least one Test in all their away tours since 2005.
While wins, esp. against Australia, cannot be compared I think this one is slightly better than Adelaide 2003. The Adelaide match was won mainly on the basis of the individual efforts of Dravid, Laxman, Kumble and Agarkar. While at Perth, everyone in the team contributed in one way or another. Maybe only Ganguly and Jaffer had a bad game, but otherwise, India are finally showing they can play well as a team.
The WACA pitch is never easy for sub-continental teams and the incidents at Sydney too must have affected the team. I thought India’s best chance was at Sydney too. But this terrific win has made many critics eat humble pie.
I also think the umpiring decisions were consistent and fair. Hussey was wrongly given out, but Tendulkar too was given out in a similar manner too. As for Symonds, well, as pointed out by Sunny Gavaskar, his bat comes with a ‘silencer’, and so the umps cannot hear the edges off his bat.
The Aussies were better than India only in the fielding department, and India will have to work on that before Adelaide. Also, in hindsight, it may seem that Aus should have gone with Hogg, but I think they were right in including Tait. He had a very bad game, but he could have rattled India. But I guess he found the going tough against top class players like Laxman, Dravid and co. The under-rated Indian bowling lineup clearly out-bowled the best bowling attack in the world. I wonder whom they’ll pick between Sharma, Pathan and Bhajji at Adelaide. For Aus, I think Mitchell Johnson seems to have the makings of a very good all-rounder.
Overall, I think it was a good day for sport. India defeated Aus at Perth on the same day as the Federer-Tipseravic match.
It’ll be great if India can do something special at the Adelaide oval. It will certainly not be easy for India to win there too, but I think it will be a exciting match.
Wasim..there was no controversial umpiring..umpire asad was consistent throughout..the ball was flying over the stump for tendulkar as well as dhoni…and to his credit umpire asad gave the hussey lbw for same height..and mind you hawkeye showed it was travelling lower than tendulkars even though above the stumps..and bowden didnt give lbw to ponting many times!!
so it was pretty even handed..not like ten clear decisions against one!!
One question why is it that people always have to sound even handed and get scared calling spade a spade..and more so in todays world where its amply clear through youtubes what had happened in sydney and what has happened at perth.
There have been many pakistanis maligning ump Jaiprakash suggesting he assisted kumble with five of the ten wickets..just to put the theory to rest i offer the following PROOF…
hope the short sighted around the world..( including canada
) watch it and stop whining hence forth..

The propoganda had been so feverish that many people have actually started to believe the nonsense..only it looks like afridi should have received that benifit of doubt!!
The match was again tainted by controversial umpiring this time in India’s favor perhaps the ICC wanted to make it even.
Anyways India has every right to enjoy this victory as in the previous match they were robbed not only of the match but also the series.
Australia’s tactic of playing four fast bowlers backfired as the overly hyped Shaun Tait failed miserably his line and length was pathetic and he merely bowled in 140′s he couldn’t even touch 150′s in the match. Australia’ batting line up recieved a setback with the absence of Mat Hayden, also ponting looks to be completely out of form.
For India the induction of Sehwag and Irfan Pathan changed the tide for them, Sehwag played aggressively it seemed as if he has regained his form, Irfan Pathan’s late swing has been deadly in this match he received full support from Ishant and RP Singh.
We might see a dog fight in the fourth match as India will try its best to level the series Australia will have to rethink their combination.
