POOR UMPIRING BRINGS AUSTRALIA ON TOP
on January 3rd, 2008 at 3:06 amPosted In: Videos, video posts
Australia were in deep trouble on the first day when they were 134 for 6, but a partnership between Hogg and Symonds put them on top Indians were helpless against Symonds as the umpires were in no mood to give him out, at least four clear decisions went against the Indians and they have every right to protest with the ICC.

Laxman’s hundred is anytime better than Tendulkar’s 160 n.o., at that time when Laxman came in, it was very difficult to play and it was obvious from the way Jaffar got out and the way Dravid was playing. Laxman’s 46 came in only 31 balls but, his 50 in 43 balls and that is mainly due to Dravid. He got a life on a no-ball and then he was also dropped by Gilchrist, so Laxman had to slow down. The way he batted, I wonder what makes the Indian selectors think he is only a test player and not an ODI player?
And guys on this blog please stop complaining about bad umpiring decisions, it happens everywhere and India is not immune from that. In my opinion the worst thing that is going to happen now is the banning of Harbhajan Singh from the rest of the matches and to me that appears like a pre-planed, well orchestrated ploy from Ricky Ponting, who got out 7/8 times against his bowling and there is no better way of getting rid of him by way of provoking him when he was batting not like a tail-ender batsman but more like an accomplished batsman.
I think Symonds is over acting here and Ponting has already insisted umpire Mark Benson to report the matter which he did. The way Benson was covering his mouth with his hand i.e., not to let the camera detect his words from lip movement, is very, very sinister. Symonds had been crying wolf while he was in India and now he is the only one who seems to have got a direct threat from some Pakistani so-called terrorist! It seems that ONLY his life is in danger and that is why he is opting to stay out of the Pakistan tour. Neither, the government of Australia, nor their cricket board or the captain is talking about canceling the tour except for Roy Symonds. This bully boy must really be suffering from ADD (attention deficiency disorder).
Gangster maulvi -
When have I ever said anything against the Pakistani team, Inzamam, Aleem Dar, Asad Rauf, you or any other Pakistani? Please read my comment carefully. BTW, I did not like Darrel Hair’s actions either.
The poor decisions can still can hurt India. It’s the last thing a team needs when they come up against a world champion team like Australia. And Mr.Ashraf, it’s not like Ponting did not react at all after being given out. I am not saying that the umpires were biased towards India (which they weren’t because even Sachin was given NO on a close decision). All I want to point out is that umpire Bucknor who turns 62 this year must retire, so that ALL teams are spared of his decision-making. He appears to be past his prime right now.
The ICC is planning to introduce a challenge system, as there is in tennis, in the CT this year. I think it’s a good move.
i am not agree with samy comment. when inzmam protest umpiring decision vs darell hair why world say he is cheat and terrorist?indian always say umpire cheat.they did against mr aleem dar, world best umpire.now no umpire in australia pakistani. why they say umpire cheat?in inzmam case umpire dafinitely cheat but here umpire is fair. can some1 tell me, is umpires cheating?ponting decision and lee lbw also wrong. why indian saying those thing?
i am shocked to see the view of indian fans. 3 or 4 decisions went against india but my first instinct with ponting’s dismissal was that it was not out. i didnt hear the nick, my second instinct was that the toe end of the bat brushed the ground because the ball seemed too distant from ponting’s bat. i know ponting was out but i think it was very human for the umpire to not see that.
also i dont know why indians are complaining because umpires are not cheating. they are just unlucky. when ponting was given out, that was the most shocking dismissal yet aussies didnt complain. brett lee was going great guns and technically the ball hit him outside off and he also was not out. but the indians didnt even utter a single word for that dismissal. i was surprised because i thought gavasker and shastri are unbiased but the way they shouted at the umpires and whined about the dismissals, really shocked me. it was bias at its core.
i think only 1 dismissal from australia’s side should be given out, which was the caught behind of symonds. his stumping chance was also highly doubtful because only in the slow motion replay did it seem that his foot might be in the air.ponting’s dismissal was so shocking that i couldnt believe it. so it has evened out because only symonds caught behind should have been given out and then ponting’s dismissal was clearly not out.
i think indian team and commentators have been disgraceful. i wont forget the biased and incensed comments of gavaskar and shastri, especially the insulting way they spoke about the umpires and aussie players.india cant tolerate seeing australia thrash them. australia have not given their best in this series yet. i dont think india are fair players, they always whine and their players appeal too much. kumble begs the umpire to raise the finger, he doesnt ask or persuade. shame on indian team, fans and commentators
India were ‘Bucknored’ once again. Aus would have been dismissed for far less had Steve Bucknor given Symmo out. I thought that one was really obvious. I feel the ICC really needs to set an age limit for umpires. Bucknor is 60 right now, and he should really consider retiring. But I also think Symonds should’ve walked.
He was given another lifeline by the 3rd ump, even though his foot was in the air when the bails were dislodged. He made the most of the poor decisions to score a century, but he should consider himself really lucky. His hundred might well be the difference between a win and a loss for the Aussies. At the same time, I think credit must also go to Hogg (who was hammered for runs today) and Lee.
Ponting who was given out on a bad decision, should’ve been dismissed much earlier, off the Ganguly delivery.
The news of the poor decisions even made it to the front page of The Times of India. The BCCI should consider going to the ICC, but it will not change the outcome of the match.
Laxman made a terrific century today, but India still have a long way to go before they can take the lead. It could all have been different and India could have been in a favourable position by now, but they cannot afford to sulk anymore and will really have to concentrate hard tomorrrow to stay alive in the match and series.
